What is a 3-in-1 bathroom heater?
3-in-1 bathroom heaters are a compact all-in-one unit, they include a light, an extractor fan and a heating function.
Things to Consider Before Buying
A 3-in-1 bathroom heater consists of a lamp, extractor and radiator, and in most cases, each manufacturer usually only makes 1 of the 3 well. That means you need to know which specs are best for your bathroom.
Below I'll go over all the specs you need to see before buying a bathroom heater and what they actually mean.
Consider how much pumping you need
Most people's extraction is the most important specification.
Extraction will always be measured in cubic meters per hour. The size of your bathroom will depend on how tall you need the numbers to be.
When installing a 3-in-1 exhaust fan, do not place it directly above the shower, it should be installed in the most central position of the room.
Choosing the right extractor fan for your bathroom is crucial as steam will enter every part of the bathroom and once condensation starts this creates an ideal place for mold and mildew. If you have a high quality extraction, this will remove the steam before creating these nasty breeding grounds.
The following are general guidelines for calculating your pumping capacity.
5m³ bathroom = 100m³/hr bathroom unit
10m³ bathroom = 200m³/hr bathroom unit
20m³ bathroom = 400m³/hr + bathroom unit
think about how much heating you want
3-in-1 bathroom heaters have always been underrated for heating before you need it. Heat should only be used when needed as it generates heat by drawing extremely high power.
Below is a rough guideline for calculating how much heat your application will require.
5m³ - 10m³ bathroom = 2 x 275w E27 Globe
10m³ - 20m³ bathroom = 4 x 275w E27 Globe or 1000w R7 Globe
Consider Lighting Requirements
The lighting in a 3-in-1 bathroom heater is usually low in brightness and adequate for basic functions.
All units will include a light, so check the color temperature included and try to match your downlight. Most units are rated at 4000K.
When choosing a lighting scheme, you want to use LED downlights evenly throughout the bathroom and 1 above the vanity, which will help to make more practical use of your vanity.
Another great option is to install strip lighting under the bathroom vanity and on top or to the side of the mirror.
When measuring how much light a bathroom needs, you must consider lumens, not watts. For a bathroom, you want around 500-600 lumens per square meter.
hint:
Another point to check when shopping for a new bathroom fixture is that the lights are replaceable and some will have built-in LED panels that are not replaceable. This means that if the light fails, you will need to replace the entire unit. We recommend purchasing the model with replaceable LED shades.
